Caper Toylen Estes Jr

Sunrise: February 24, 1949       Sunset: October 6, 2024

Caper Toylen Estes, Jr. was born on February 24, 1949, in Chicago, IL and was the fourth born to Caper Toylen Sr. and Susie Estes. His parents preceded him in death.

He had four siblings, Isabell Clark, Marshall Estes (deceased) Clorinda Griffith (deceased) and Thornton Estes (deceased). Caper attended Englewood High School where he met his high school sweetheart, best friend and wife of 54 years Carolyn Estes. Caper also attended Chicago State University where he obtained his associate's degree in education.

During Caper’s early years he graduated from Englewood high school in 1968 and was immediately drafted on November 13, 1968, to the United States Airforce, where he worked as an Aircraft Mechanic and earned the rank of a Sergeant. Caper served until November 17, 1972, until he was honorably discharged. During his time of active duty, Caper served in Vietnam, Indochina, and Korea. He also received the National Defense Service Medal, and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon.

While still on active-duty Caper proposed to his high school sweetheart and best friend Carolyn Marie Estes, which many considered a spiritual love story. Caper and Carolyn were inseparable and lived a happy, caring and loving life together. Caper and Carolyn were joined in holy matrimony on October 10, 1970. Caper and Carolyn had six children Caper L. Estes III (Charlene Estes), Timothy L. Estes (Carolyn Williams-Estes), Christy D. Brown (Edward L Brown Sr.), Demetrius Estes, Carolyn D. Rodgers (Maurice Rodgers), and Crystal Estes.

Caper had a passion for music and singing and during his high school years he was in a group called Caper and the Aragon. Caper was the lead singer of this group, and his group competed in several competitions and one notable singing competition at the Regal Theatre where they placed second to the Jackson five. Caper passion for singing continued and never ceased.

At an early age Caper developed a love for Yahuah, as his parent instilled the love for Yahuah to all his sibling as children by reading the bible to them routinely. Caper’s love for Yahuah continued into his adulthood and never ceased! Caper was highly active in the ministry serving as an outreach minister, singing in the choir, serving as a deacon, and participating in various roles in the ministry as needed. Caper was loved by many and loved reading the scriptures and studying His word. Caper and his wife loved helping people so much so, they would share their home and meals to anyone in need and in the process, Caper shared the word. He shared the word of Yahuah so much that the people in the community knew him as the neighborhood minister and some considered him as a father to them. Everyone always talked about his kindness, his love for Yahuah and his radiant smile. He was always smiling and was gentle spirit. Caper was loved by many and will be missed dearly.

Caper is survived by his loving wife Carolyn M. Estes, his children: Caper L. Estes III (Charlene Estes), Timothy L. Estes (Carolyn Williams-Estes), Christy D. Brown (Edward Brown Sr.), Demetrius Estes, Carolyn D. Rodgers (Maurice Rodgers), and Crystal Estes., His Grandchildren: Alexis, Christian, Christina, Michaela, Zaria, Diamond, Xeriouse, Martell, Nadia, Caper IV, Ava, Jessiah, Gabriel, Aiden, Jeremiah, Jayce, Michael, Edward Jr, Christy Jr. and Noah. His Sister Isabel, His Sister-in-Love, Delores Russell (Theodore Russell), his nieces and nephews: Ronna Grayson (Willie Grayson), Leah Mills, George Griffin Jr, Alicia Griffin, Quentin Wright, Nicole Gooden, Tammy, Richard, Jeffery, Lee Jr, Laura (deceased), and a host of family and friends. We will cherish the many loving memories we have of him and never forget the love and light he brought to this world.
