Herfel Carl A. Herfel, age 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the Forum at Knightsbridge. Carl was born on February, 18, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Carl and Nelle (McDaniels) Herfel. Carl served in the United States Army 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment from 1955-1956. He earned a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education at The
Ohio State University. He was the Vice Principal at Upper Arlington High School where he retired in August of 1986. Carl was a strong advocate for the well-being of youth. He dedicated a 30 year career to educating students, as well as directing the Broad Street Presbyterian Church Youth Camp, known as Broad Acres, which support underprivileged youth. As a Probation Officer he helped children get and keep their lives on track. Carl is survived by his loving wife, Sara (Broughton) Herfel; children, Bruce (Deanna) Herfel and Julie (Jim) Elke; grandchildren, Emily Herfel, Nicholas Herfel and John Elke; siblings, Betty Devore and David (Sue) Herfel; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to all of the caring staff at the Forum at Knightsbridge. Family will receive friends 9-11 AM on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221, where a memorial service will follow at 11 AM. There will be a reception following the memorial service from 12:30-2:30 PM at the Forum of Knightsbridge, 4590 Knightsbridge Boulevard, Columbus, Ohio 43214.
