Brother Carl Johnson Sr. was born to Mary and William Johnson Sr on July 25, 1947. Carl’s mom gave her son her middle name Francis. Which was fitting because Sister Mary Frances Johnson led her son to his spiritual journey. Sister Johnson introduced her son and his wife to Jehovah and they began to study the Bible with his Brother Joseph Johnson Sr. and his wife at the time Terry Johnson. Carl and Peggy were baptized on June 26, 1974 at the Milwaukee Stadiuim in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Carl and Peggy had the privilege of raising 4 children Darrin, Stacey, Carl Jr., and Ter’a, a niece Tanya, and a nephew Joseph Jr. They taught them about how wonderful Jehovah was and how important it was for them to make the truth their own. Brother Johnson enjoyed going out in the ministry working alongside his wife Peggy, granddaughter Tia, and his daughter Ter’a. He served as a Ministerial Servant and he loved working with the brothers and in the Lynwood Congregation. Carl was known for calling or stopping by to check on his friends and family. Brother Johnson was known for taking time out with the older brothers and sisters in the congregation as well. Carl and his wife Peggy faced many trials and tribulations together. Carl was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2005. He accepted this challenge with this family by his side. On December 10, 2007 Carl and Peggy lost their oldest daughter Stacey suddenly in death. That was the hardest trial they ever endured as husband and wife, but they took comfort in Jehovah and he gave them the strength to endure. So, Carl kept that smile and calm demeanor that he was known for, continued to go to lunches and dinners with his sisters Camilla and Patricia, as well as dancing, and listening to the OLDIE BUT GOODIES!
As Carl’s health got worse he was thankful to Jehovah for his family structure. His wife Peggy, his daughter Ter’a, his granddaughter and best friend Tia, son-in-law Eugene, his sons Carl, Darrin, niece and nephew Kim and Tim, and his niece Maya. He enjoyed the conversations that he had with his step-granddaughters Lataiza and Latiana.
He also appreciated all the phone calls he got from his brothers and sisters in various congregations as well as Lynwood.
On May 1, 2020 Carl and Peggy made 49 years in marriage, On May 3, 2020 Carl and Peggy Johnson celebrated their 49th anniversary with their family. Their niece and nephew Tim and Kim showered them with gifts and kisses (social distance through the door.)Their children showered them with gifts as well. This was the last time Carl walked. Peggy always told her husband that Jehovah put them together and he was a great husband and spiritual provider. Carl’s last words to his wife Peggy was: “Hey babe I love you too!” And to his granddaughter Tia: “Poppy is ok I love you too babe.”
Carl was blessed in so many ways his baby daughter Ter’a had the privilege of being her father’s caregiver. But who would have known that Ter’a would be the last to see and hold her father’s hand. On July 2, 2020 Carl Francis Johnson Sr. fell asleep in death. He will be forever remembered as an amazing Husband,Father, Poppy, Uncle, Brother, and Friend. But most of all Carl will be remembered for his dedication to Jehovah.
Carl was preceded in death by his father and mother William and Mary Johnson as well as his brothers William, Joseph Sr, and Matthew.
