Carl H. BenschOAK HARBOR: Carl H. Bensch of Oak Harbor was called to his eternal home on December 22, 2016, at Riverview Healthcare Campus. The son of John and Ida (Lindner) Bensch, he was born on June 27, 1921, on the family farm in Oak Harbor, where he lived his entire life. On June 27, 1946, he married Phyllis Krukemyer of Pemberville, Ohio, and she survives.In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Alan (Gloria) Bensch of Fort Mill, SC, and Arlyn (Candace) Bensch of Oak Harbor, daughter, Rhonda Biedlingmaier of Oak Harbor; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Suzanne) Bensch, David (Mackenzie) Bensch, Paul Biedlingmaier, Ryann Biedlingmaier and Mark Biedlingmaier; and great grandson, Tyler Bensch. He also served as a father figure to Nancy (Schultz) Knipper of Avon. Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters, Gertrude and Louise, infant brother Johann and granddaughter, Regan Biedlingmaier.Carl was a lifelong farmer, who had a real passion for being a steward of the soil. He had an uncanny ability to build or fix almost anything. At the age of 25, he converted an old house that had been used for grain storage for over three decades into a home for his new bride. Then at the age of 75, he re-sided the original barn on this property in order to preserve its life for many years to come. Carl served for several terms on the Northwest Ohio Ag Credit Board and was president of the Woodville Mutual Insurance Company Board for over 20 years. In retirement he enjoyed reading, woodworking and attending his grandchildren's activities. Possessing a great sense of humor and trademark smile, he was known for his ability to come up with a story for just about any situation.He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Rocky Ridge. He faithfully served his church whenever needed, whether it was as a council member, Sunday School teacher or snow plower. He sang in the church choir for 67 years and enjoyed playing on the dartball team.Visitation for Carl will be 2-8 p.m., Monday, December 26, 2016, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at St. John Lutheran Church, Rocky Ridge, with burial to follow in Salem Township Union Cemetery in Oak Harbor. The family has suggested memorials for Carl to go to St. John Lutheran Church, 450 N. Rocky Ridge Rd., Rocky Ridge, OH 43458; the Luther Home of Mercy, P.O.
