Carl Herman BastianMurfreesboro - Carl Herman Bastian met his Lord on October 21st, 2017. Carl was born on August 21, 1927 in Canandaigua, New York. Carl graduated from Canandaigua Academy in 1945. He enlisted in the
United States Air Force in November of 1945. He earned the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Victory Medal. He attended a Radio Operators course and served as a Radio Operator at Orlando Air Force base until 1948. During his time in the Air Force in Florida Carl met and married Victoria Lapaix, who was then a civilian employed on the base.Vicky and Carl moved to Chicago where Carl attended Deforest Technical School, where he studied electronics and earned his associates degree. He worked at Warwick Industries, a company that later moved him and his wife Vicky and daughter Margaret to Brownsville, TN. Carl's wife Vicky passed away in 1973, after twenty-six of marriage. He met Sally Ann (Chandler) Metz and her two children Laura (3) and Craig(7) at church and they were married in 1974.Carl and Sally franchised a Radio Shack and moved their newly blended family to Murfreesboro, TN. They eventually sold the franchise and Carl was employed until retirement at Whirlpool where he "played in the lab" designing the electronics that control heating and air systems. Carl and Sally were very active in their church, Grace Lutheran, where Carl served as an elder and as a trustee. Their church family was their whole world, both spiritually and socially. During retirement, Carl enjoyed playing golf, wiring Habitat for Humanity homes, and serving as president and active member of the Kiwanis Club.Carl and Sally moved part time and eventually full time to Hawthorne in Leesburg, Florida to be closer to Sally's mother. They enjoyed their life at Hawthorne. Carl rode his bike, played golf, and played poker and pool. He was an active member of the Nature Club and enjoyed the many outings and trips they took together. He and Sally acted in many plays together as well. Carl was a member of the Barber Shoppers, where he was able to share his talent for singing and enjoy his friends. Carl and Sally were active members of Gloria Dei Lutheran church, where Carl sang in the choir. Carl's wife Sally passed away in 2016, after forty-two years of marriage.Carl was a loving husband and doting father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved to sing and play the guitar and harmonica. He was a self-less hard-working man who was always there for his friends and family, no matter what.Carl is survived by his daughter Margaret ( Scott) Wosepka, son Craig ( Doris) Metz, and daughter Laura ( Larry) Lewis; eight grand children and one great granddaughter. He is also survived by sister-in-law Azelee Bastian, brother-in-law James ( Carol) Chandler, and sister-in-law Mary (Gary) Smock, several nieces and nephews, and countless friends.Carl was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Lulu Bastian, his brother Edward Bastian, and sisters Esther Carney and Ina Bauer, as well as his wives Victoria Lapaix and Sally Ann Bastian.The life of Carl H. Bastian will be celebrated on Saturday, November 25th, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, at 10 o'clock, 130 S. Lone Oak Drive, Leesburg, FL 34748-5401.In lieu of Flowers, send donations to the food bank at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church made out to "Joining Hands in Food Ministry" 130 S.
