Carl William HolmesAugust 11, 1914 - February 2, 2014Carl William Holmes 99, of Homedale passed away February 2, 2014 at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab of Holly in Nampa. Carl was born on August 11, 1914 in Shenandoah, Iowa to Charlie Holmes and Alice Brown Holmes. He moved to Idaho around 1931 to live with his Uncle Bowman Hays's family. He worked on the family farm and for neighbors before starting his own farming operation which he ran until he retired. Carl lived with his cousin Eulah Hays in Homedale. Carl loved celebrating Christmas with extravagant display of lights and holiday figurines. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, bowling and annual trips to the Oregon coast with his family. In his retirement he was usually found gardening or socializing with church friends and family. His kind heart and generosity will be remembered by many. Though Carl never had children of his own, he was thought of as a father by Sandra Hurn, whom he helped raise. He was also seen as a grandfather by many family members. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Alma Larimer and Juanita Case. His Uncle Bowman and Aunt Eva Hays, his cousins: Lee Hays, Faye Dines, Eulah Hays, Velma Milligan and Carl Hays. He is survived by his nieces Betty Adams and Nancy Rumfelt, nephew Bill Case, cousin Robert Hays and numerous other cousins. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Flahiff Funeral Chapels. A viewing will be on Thursday February 6, 2014 at 9:30 AM at the Mountain View Church of the Nazarene in Wilder. The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM. Graveside services follow at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell.
