This obituary is administered by:

Carl L. Smith, 84, of Fairland, Oklahoma, departed his earthly life on December 11, 2017, at Freeman Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Carl was born to the late Bill and Edith (Wiley) Smith on December 22, 1932, in West Mineral, Kansas.

Carl graduated from Cherokee High School in Cherokee. That is where he met the love of his life, Shirley Satterly. On May 29, 1953, in Pittsburg, Kan., Carl and Shirley were hitched. This was only the beginning of what would be 63 years of adventures. Carl, a veteran of the United States Air Force, served his first eighteen-months in Okinawa during the Korean War. Carl was then able to come back to the states and be rejoined with his wife, taking her to Limestone, Maine. In 1957, Carl's time with the U.S.A.F. was complete, and they decided it was time for a new adventure, they moved to Alaska. Carl and Shirley then moved to Choctaw, Okla., where they lived from 1964 to 1970. In 1970, it was time for another change; Carl and Shirley moved to Oronogo, Mo., where they had a large farm. Carl began working at Farmers Chemical while farming; he retired in 1995. Carl and Shirley settled in Fairland, where they enjoyed farming and Carl's many other hobbies including airplanes, helicopters, fishing, and spending time with his family.

This beloved "ole' man" leaves behind his "ole' broad", Shirley, of the home; one daughter, Susan Dale, Carl Junction, Mo.; one son, Alan Smith and his wife, Karen (Naylor) Smith, of Neosho, Mo.; five grandchildren, Tiffany Tuggle, Carl Junction, Sarah (Naylor) Tilford and husband, Mike, of Pineville, Mo., Mason Smith, Carterville, Mo., Glennis (Bub) Naylor II, Neosho, Shelby Smith, Carterville; three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Tuggle, Addison Tuggle, and Garret Tuggle, all of Carl Junction; sisters, Millie Dickerson, of Joplin, Mo., Linda and Ronnie Gibson, of Webb City, Mo., Sonnie Dooley, of Joplin.

Carl was preceded in death by Wilma Davis; brother-in-law, Larry and spouse, Louise Satterly, of Kansas City, Mo. Carl was loved by many nieces and nephews as well as extended family and friends.
