Carlota M. Maestas, 69, a lifetime resident of Cañoncito, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.She was born on Aug. 27, 1947, in La Cueva to her parents, Jose E. Maestas and Clorinda Salazar Maestas.A Catholic and a member of the San Rafael Church in La Cueva, she loved sewing, going to the casino and going to all community events.She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Clorinda Maestas. She is survived by her daughters and sons, Connie "Annette" Maestas (Alfred) of Cañoncito, Leonard Maestas (Valerie) of Cleveland, Ruthann Ortiz (Jorge), Oliver Maestas (Cathy), all of Las Vegas, Matthew Maestas of Cañoncito, Jesusita Smith (Keith) of Chacon, and Anselmo Duran III (Jennifer) of Rio Rancho; grandchildren, Cassandra Ferran (Logan), Conrad Romero, Leonor Maestas (Mykel), Julia Maestas, Misty Maes, Felina Maes (Shawn), Gabrielle Maes, Zoe Maestas, Ryan Trujillo, Kathleen Jaramillo (Santiago), John Romero (Brittany), Barbara Romero (Jeffrey) Karly Ramirez (Joshua), Manuel Fernandez, Ruben Fernandez (Veronica), Isaiah Fernandez, Jessica Romero and Jasmine Duran; great-grandchildren, Maria Tenorio, Stephen Mora, Jr., Aiden Mora, Athena Montoya, Santiago Maestas, Ethan Maestas, JayLynn Roybal, Joshua Martinez, Mariah Jaramillo, Santiago Jaramillo, Diego Jaramillo, Julian Jaramillo, John Romero Jr., Jaden Romero, Jonah Romero, Jordan Romero, Torie Sanchez and Jeffrey Salazar Jr.; godfather, Jose Manzanarez (Lilla) of Las Animas, Colo.; best friend, Emily Vigil of Holman; numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Gertrude Church in Mora with Father Dennis Dolter, S.O.L.T., as celebrant.
