Carmelita Sylvia Zwick 84, passed on August 19, 2020, at the home of her grandaughter, Savannah Akin, in Diana, Texas. She was born on November 29, 1935 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, the daughter of Howard H.W. and Sylvia (McDonald) Whipple.
Carmelita grew up in farming country and was a true pioneer woman. Her dream was always to live in Alaska. Her dream came true in 1969. For several years she was a commercial fisherwoman, she fished for halibut and salmon. Later in life she also enjoy shrimping, crabbing, hunting, collecting seaweed and beach asperagas. Living off the land and canning everything she could was pure joy to her.
On April 12, 1990 Carmelita married David Zwick at the home of her daughter LeiLani. This was a special date as it was also LeiLani's birth date. Another shared date was the anniversary of LeiLani's marriage and David's birthday.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Peggy Rae Welch and Peggy's son Joshua John. Her brother Willis Whipple also predeceased her. Surviving in addition to her husband, David, of Naukati, Alaska, are daughters LeiLani Graham and her husband, Sharon Holt and Carmelita Orr and her husband; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, three brothers and one sister. She is also survived by step-daughters; Lori MCardle and Becky Heiner, step-sons; Bradley Zwick, Brian Zwick and John Zwick.
Per Carmelita's wishes her cremated remains will be scatter in Sea Otter Sound. Her husband, David, Daughter, Sharon and Step-Daughter Lori will have this honor.
