Carmen Silva, age 79 of 2241 has been called upon the heavens on April 8, 2020. Carmen was born in Salinas, Puerto Rico, but made her beautiful life in Spanish Harlem. Carmen may have parted ways from this earth onto heaven, which is the hardest thing we all must endure, but she has given us 79 years of her grace. Yes, 79 years, because when GOD created this masterpiece of a mother, a friend, and a sibling our paths and futures were already set for when she would grace us with her presence.
Carmen is known to have many names. Mami, Mama Carmen, Grandma, and the most well-respected name Doña Carmen. The name that showed the respect that everyone had for her, family or not. Carmen has given so much to everyone she has encountered. If you look up the word selfless her picture should be on the front page. Carmen has taken in many children that needed a family. While many did not stay, they still were touched by the love that was given when many did not want to give.
Carmen did not just end with taking care of her family, she also gave back to the people around the neighborhood or anybody in need. No matter what it was Carmen was there for everyone, but most importantly Carmen gave everyone hope, she made people believe that no matter how hard or dark things look everything’s going to be ok. As the lovely Doña Carmen would say:
“no te preocupes todo va salir bien”
Yes, we are all hurting. We lost the link to everything in our lives. Things feel empty, but we must celebrate Carmen’s life by remembering all the beautiful things she has shown and taught us. Carmen is not only survived by the Silva’s or the Torres' but everyone that she has touched. We all must live in her name and keep her legacy going because she is still here, she is in all our hearts.
You can to the family or in memory of Carmen Silva.
