Carol De VisserOctober 19, 1934 - March 7, 2013Carol De Visser, 78, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness on Thursday, March 7, 2013. She was born on October 19, 1934 in Pocatello, Idaho to Clinton Lynn Harris and Georgia Lerwill Harris Cherry. She graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1952 and was married to Lawrence H. De Visser on August 21, 1953 in the LDS Church in Riverside, Idaho. During her life she was actively involved in the Bannock Association of Retarded Citizens, including serving as president, and was the driving force in the development of the Pocatello Independence Home. She was also a member of and involved in the Professional Education Organization - an organization based on advancement and education for women. She also enjoyed golfing, snow skiing in Sun Valley, water skiing at the family cabin in Island Park, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many primary and scout callings when her sons were young including cub, bear, and weblos leader. She was a great mother and wife. She is preceded in death by her mother, father, step-father John Cherry, brother James Harris, and step-brother John Cherry. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence, her daughter Lawrie, her sons Matt (Jan), and Mark. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16, at noon in the LDS Highland 6th Ward Chapel, 2925 Michelle Street. The family will receive friends and family from 11:00 to 11:45 am on Saturday at the chapel. The family would like to give a special thanks to Encompass Home Health & Hospice, especially Royanna, Toni, Rod, and Courtney. Special thanks also to Doctors Alston and Gerard. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to Bannock Association of Retarded Citizens.
