IOWA CITY –Carol Elaine Wilson, 62, of Iowa City and formerly of Atkins, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at University Hospitals and Clinics following a sudden illness.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m., until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Stephen's Cemetery, Atkins. A memorial fund has been established.Carol was born on April 4, 1954 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Ralph E. and Mary (Krug) Wilson. She graduated from Benton Community High School in 1972 with high honors. She attended Kirkwood Community College. She graduated from the University of Iowa with two Masters Degrees. She served as regional manager of the Veterans Affairs Department for many years, a job which carried her to employment and residences in several states until she was transferred back to Iowa City. She held other jobs in Iowa City at the University Campus, Pearson's and Walmart and as a hostess at the Sheraton Inn in Cedar Rapids and the Iron Men Inn in Iowa City until her health began to fail. Even partly disabled, she still remained active and volunteered at the Salvation Army soup kitchen. Her warm infectious personality touched everyone she knew and her shockingly high intelligence level was apparent to everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed by family members and especially her brother and little dogs.She is survived by her mother Mary Wilson of Atkins; 2 brothers, Donald Wilson of Atkins/Shellsburg, Brian (Nancy) Wilson of West Chester; five nieces and nephews; five little dogs, Charley, Daisy, Penny, Sara Lee and Baby; and many cousins.She was preceded in death by her father Ralph in 2002, her grandparents and several little dogs.Online condolences may be left at: www.phillipsfuneralhomes.com
