Carole Barker DonleyZANESVILLE: Carole Barker Donley of Zanesville died at 10:10am Tuesday, September 03, 2013 at the Genesis Hospice & Palliative Care following a courageous battle with a long illness.She was born on May 24, 1938 in Zanesville Ohio the daughter of Francis Edwin Barker and Nina Frances Grimm Barker Douglas.Carole was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, and received her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree on November 23rd, 1971 and her Registered Nursing Degree on August 1, 1974 and had worked at both Bethesda & Good Samaritan Hospitals as well as Medical Associates. She was a recipient of the 1998 Bob & Dolores Hope Award for donating thousands of hours of her time to the Muskingum County Animal Shelter where she had served as board member and was also a recipient of the Ray Thomas community involvement award. She also donated time to the Zaney Follies and other projects helping to promote the Hospice of Genesis. She was wonderful mother & grandmother who loved animals, nature & gardening. Carole also enjoyed bird watching, reading & was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. She is survived by her children and grandchildren, Todd Fitz of Alexandria, Molly Fitz of Galena and grandchildren, Sydney Fitz and Samantha Fitz and their mother, Angie Cooper Joffe. Carole is also survived by Dr. Charles Donley's children and grandchildren, his children include Gail (Rev. Craig) Donley Jones, Russ (Becky) Donley, Liz (Chris) Donley Wagner, Ray Donley; his grandchildren, Kristy and Brett Lucas, Cindy and Josh Gerry, Josh Jones, John Donley, Jill Donley, Emily Wagner, Allyson Wagner, Austin Donley and Landon Donley; she is survived by numerous friends including her first husband, Roger (Carol) Fitz and a special friend, Dennis McIntire; and her beloved feline pets, Sugar, Sassy and Babycakes.Carole was preceded in death in addition to her parents by her husband, Charles R. Donley M.D. who died on May 10, 1998 and a very special sister, Susanne Nasser. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 4:00pm today at the Bryan & Snider Funeral Home by family and friends.
