Carole Marie Michaelson Olsen, cherished for her generous nature, love of classical music and heavenly fudge, died peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at home in Wake Forest – her family at her side. Carole was born on Aug. 4, 1937, in Moline, Ill., to the late Vernon and Margret Michaelson. She spent her formative years in Madison, Minn. She met and married the love of her life, Kenneth Olsen MD (formerly of Grand Junction, Colo.) when living in Denver, Colo. Jacksonville was where she and Kenneth raised their three daughters, moving to Wake Forest, for their retirement years. Carole lived her life with charm, grace and a sense of style. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed spending time with family, friends and her two dogs, Zoey and Cricket.
Carole is survived by her husband Kenneth Olsen, MD of Wake Forest; her three daughters, Heather Olsen of Wake Forest, Melanie (Arin) Jacobson of Holly Springs, and Nicole (Steven) Shova of Columbia, S.C.; her brother, Richard (Delores) Michaelson of Madison, Minn.; two nephews, David Michaelson of Seward, Neb., and Jonathan (Rachel) Olsen of Philadelphia. She is also survived by the lights of her life, her grandchildren, Alexandra Shova, Elizabeth Jacobson, Gavin Olsen and Blake Shova.
No formal funeral services will be held, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carole's memory may be made to your local Hospice or the ASPCA.
