Carolyn Benton, 81, passed away peacefully at her home in El Centro, CA on Saturday, September 6, 2014. She was born on August 29, 1933 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Carolyn moved to Imperial with her parents, Ben and Stella Tamblyn in 1944 where she graduated at the top of her class in 1951. Continuing her education at SDSU, she earned a degree in Zoology. In 1955 she married the "love of her life" Henry Victor (Vic) Benton of El Centro and they had three sons. She then started a career with Imperial County Social Services spanning over 4 decades. In 2002 she hosted a foreign exchange student Katja Lehman from Germany. Along with her love of reading, Carolyn filled her time with the planning and preparation of "Sunday Family Dinner" which included her famous Black Bottom Pie. Besides Sunday dinners, Carolyn's favorite past times included: watching the Dodgers on TV, listening to the Angels on the radio and reading a book all at the same time. She also enjoyed spending time with her close friends the Brana family and Sue Lydick. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 9 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro. Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, "Vic". She is survived by her sons, Hank (Candi) Benton of Imperial, Ben (Cathy) Benton of El Centro and Bob Benton of El Centro; 7 grandchildren, Chad Benton of Pacific Beach, Brooke Benton, Clay and Carre' Benton of Imperial, Cody Benton of Tucson, AZ, Sarah, Chase and Benjamin Benton of El Centro and 7 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank her caregiver Yvonne Valenzuela for showing such love and compassion to Carolyn as she dealt with ALS.
