Carolyn Elizabeth (Kutz) Griffith, a cherished member of the Fairfield, Illinois community, passed away peacefully at her home on November 25, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on November 13, 1936, to Frank and Dorothy Katz, Carolyn spent her entire life in Fairfield, where she graduated from Fairfield Community High School in 1954.
Carolyn shared 68 wonderful years of marriage with her late husband, Jim Griffith. Together, they were the proud owners and operators of the Dog N’ Suds Drive-In restaurant and Country Companies Insurance, both staples in the Fairfield community for many years. Known for her kindness, generosity, and loving spirit, Carolyn was a beloved figure in her community.
An active member of the First Christian Church, Carolyn dedicated much of her time to volunteering and was a regular at her weekly Bridge games with her close friends. Her commitment to her community and her vibrant social life were testaments to her enduring spirit and love for those around her.
Carolyn is survived by her son, Clark Griffith, and his wife, Trisha; her sister-in-law, Jean Griffith; daughters-in-law, Peggy Griffith and Lisa Griffith; her grandchildren, Talisa, Christopher, Lauren, Will, Lydia, Eric, Jennifer, and Jamie; and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, and her sons, Jim Griffith, Jr., and William “Brent” Griffith.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Fairfield, Illinois, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Carolyn will be cremated, and her ashes will be interred at Maple Hill Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. Dennis Scranton Cancer Memorial Fund or the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Oncology Department.
