BURLINGTON - Carolyn L. De Grave, Age 85, of Burlington, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2012 at Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington. She was born on September 20, 1926 in Burlington, to the late Albert and Freida (nee Wiemer) Pieters. Carolyn was a lifetime resident of Burlington and a graduate of St. Mary's High School. In January of 1947, Carolyn was united in marriage to Arthur R. De Grave. Following marriage they made their home in Burlington. Arthur preceded Carolyn in death on November 19, 1983. Carolyn had worked as a Health Aide for the Burlington Public Schools. She was a longtime volunteer for Love Inc, as well as working part time as a manager in the office. Carolyn was a member of the B.P.W., St. Charles Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers at St. Charles Church and a Girl Scout leader. Carolyn enjoyed playing Bridge and was an avid lover of outdoor activities, including cross country skiing, biking and gardening. She had a love for animals. Survivors include her loving children; Peter (Ruth) De Grave of Burlington, Carol De Grave of Yakima, WA, Gail (Gary)De Grave-McMonagle of Orondo, WA, and Ellen (Bill Powers) De Grave of Cummington, MA, grandchildren; Leanne (David) Smith of Caledonia, Aaron De Grave of Burlington, Nicole (Simon Tilton) De Grave of Lake Geneva, Nathan McMonagle of Seattle, WA, Matthew McMonagle of Seattle, WA and Nolan (Bailey Northcott) McMonagle of Kennewick, WA, great-grandchildren; Jacob and Andrew Smith of Caledonia, brother, Donald (Betty) Pieters of De Pere, and by a sister-in-law, Bea De Grave of Burlington. She is further survived by special friends; Deena Corey, Sandy Wagner, Dorothy Koldeway, Sue Kuta and Rick and Joan Zwiebel and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and by brothers; William, Joseph, Richard and Bro. David Pieters. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 1:00 PM at St. Charles Catholic Church with Rev. Steve Amann officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the CHURCH on Friday, from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM. Inurnment will take place at St. Charles Cemetery on Saturday, March 10, at 1:00 PM.
