Carolyn Marie Smith, 99, of Chicago, Illinois, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, December 15, 2019. Carolyn was born to Paul, and Frieda Steindel on June 13, 1920 in Lincoln, Minnesota. She was the sister of Minnie (James Profitt), Martha (Lloyd Corrow), Catherine (Jack Casey), Charlene (Lt. Col. David Katz) and baby Brother Paul.
Carolyn married the love of her life Albert Henry Smith in 1941. They raised their family and lived in Chicago. They were married for 46 wonderful years until Albert's untimely death in "1987".
Carolyn retired from the Paymaster Corp. In 1982. Carolyn was a Foreman and ran the Machine Shop where check writers were manufactured. Carolyn volunteered for the Salvation Army for 25 years and was passionate about affecting the most positive change in people.
Carolyn was the loving mother of 3 children: Paul, Richard, and Nancy (George J Mendes). She was also the proud Grandmother of 1 grandchild Dr. John Albert Michael Mendes (Melissa Charoenrath) and 5 Great Grandchildren: Sophia, Jack, Dominic, Annemarie and Judah.
Carolyn leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, brother in law (Jack Casey) and many acquaintances.
Carolyn enjoyed cooking, gardening, garage sales and was an avid Chicago sports fan. She had a very special place in her heart for animals. She leaves behind her little dog Lucy and 2 cats Mew and Kit Kat.
Carolyn lived a very full life and made a difference in the lives of the people she met along the way.
She will be missed more than words can express.
