Carolynn DockendorfCarolynn Dockendorf, 63, of Emery, SD, died Friday, November 25, 2016 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center in Dell Rapids. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, November 29 at St. Martin Catholic Church in Emery. Burial will be in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm on Monday with a scripture service at 7:00 pm at St. Martin Catholic Church. Arrangements are with the Hettinger-Bittner Funeral Chapel in Emery.Carolynn Jean (Kurtenbach) Dockendorf was born on January 27, 1953 in Mitchell, SD to Robert and Helen (Kitto) Kurtenbach. She grew up in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1971. After graduating from Mitchell Technical Institute and Dakota Wesleyan University, Carolynn went on to get her Registered Nurses degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. On April 29th 1972, she married Leon Dockendorf at Armour, SD. In 1984, they moved to Emery, SD where they made their home and raised their family. For over 30 years, Carolynn was a very dedicated and passionate nurse. She spent most of her career at Sanford Health holding multiple positions from the surgical floor to dialysis and finally to the Patient Appointment Center where she retired. Carolynn was a leader and specialty speaker on the subject of dialysis and traveled to conferences to share her knowledge. When she wasn't helping others, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She and Leon enjoyed spending time out at their cabin near Fairfax, SD, with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, reading, crocheting, and playing cards with friends. She was an active member of St. Martin's Catholic Church.Carolynn is survived by her two daughters: Brenda Wyland and her husband, Jeremy, of Glyndon, MN, Paula Burke of Emery, SD; son, Lee Dockendorf and wife, Ashton, of Sioux Falls, SD; son-in-law, Brian Leitheiser and wife, Becky, of Emery, SD; ten grandchildren: Zackary and Madyson Leitheiser, Kelli, Tyler, and Kari Osterloo, Sydney Wyland, Parker and Tessa Burke, McKoen and Leighton Dockendorf. She is also survived by her siblings: Ardis Breidenbach, Beverly Schmitz, Donna King, Barbara Svensen, Kevin Kurtenbach, Kalvin Kurtenbach and Julie Kobernusz. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leon Dockendorf, daughter, Tammy Leitheiser, her parents, sister, Roberta Kurtenbach and a nephew, Darrel Dockendorf.
