Carolynn J. VolzSeptember 9, 2017Carolynn J. Volz, of Fort Myers, passed away on September 9, 2017. She was born on October 2, 1943 in Muskegon, Michigan as the youngest child of Clair O. Helmer and Jane (Cooper) Helmer. Carolynn was a graduate of Douglas College of Rutgers University. While raising her family and when the children were older, Carolynn continued her education and received her Masters Degree in Library Sciences from the University of South Florida. Carolynn worked at Hodges University for over ten years, attaining the position of Library Director. In 2013, she was named the Florida Librarian of the Year. Carolynn also served as the Executive Director of the Southwest Florida Library Network (SWFLN). After retiring from Hodges University in 2013, she was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus. Carolynn is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Hon. Edward J. Volz, Jr., daughter Katherine C. Volz (Tyler Mack) of Wauconda, IL and son E. Kevin (Alice) Volz of Washington, D.C. She is also survived by her brother, Paul (Harriet) Helmer of Arvada, CO. A Celebration of Carolynn's Life will be held on Saturday, October 7, 1017, from 1 to 3 PM at the Blue Coyote Supper Club, 9854 Caloosa Yacht and Racquet Club Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33919.The family requests that in lieu of flowers or gifts, a donation be made in Carolynn's name to: , 4575 Via Royale, Unit #110, Fort Myers, FL 33919.
