• We mourn the loss of Cassandra Downey-Richards from Childress, Texas, who passed away on April 29, 2023, at the age of 52. She was known for her infectious laughter and kind heart.

Cassandra was born on August 29, 1970, to Jerry Downey and Maxine Walker. She attended South High School, where she graduated in 1989. She went on to pursue higher education at WSU. Cassandra worked for many years as a CNA and brought immense joy to the patients she cared for.

In 2008, Cassandra married her soulmate, James Richards, and together they had a big, beautiful family. Cassandra was a devoted mother to her ten children, Charley Hughes, Daysha Brown, James Richards Jr., Larissa Hughes, Lametrius Turner, Demetrius Turner, Jamesia Richards, Jai'Terrion Richards Israel Brown, and Prince. She was also a loving grandmother to five grandchildren.

Cassandra had a passion for life that was contagious. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family, cooking up a storm in the kitchen, and turning up the volume on her favorite music. Her zest for life was palpable and she truly lived every day to the fullest.

It is with great sadness that we share the tragic news of Cassandra's untimely passing. She was taken from us far too soon due to gun violence. Her vibrant spirit will be sorely missed, but her legacy of love and joy will carry on through the memories she left behind.

Rest in peace, Cassandra Downey-Richards. You will be forever remembered and cherished by all who knew you.
