Catherine Gotschall, 79, of Jacksonville, passed away Oct. 26, 2016, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis.She was born on Dec. 16, 1936, the daughter of Thomas and Dorothy Mae Craddock in Murrayville. She married Howard Gotschall Sr. on Oct. 12, 1957.Catherine is survived by her son, Howard (Leah Hofferkamp) Gotschall II of St. Louis; sister, Martha McMillan of Dekalb; sister, Betty Connor of Ashland; sister, Jean (Richard) Monroe of Jacksonville; sister, June (Nick) Gowin of Jacksonville; brother Jim Craddock of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Michael Gotschall; sister, Floreca Stewart; sister, Dorothy Osborne; brother, Tom Craddock; sister, Mary Ray; and sister, Linda Hayes.Catherine was a wife, mother, and homemaker, working part-time in various jobs from florist to bookkeeper. She was also very active in the community, volunteering many hours at the Franklin United Methodist Church, the Franklin School District, and Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville. In 1995, she had a liver transplant at St. Louis University Hospital, a gift that kept her on earth for 21 additional years. Catherine always chose life, surpassing the 10 year expectation the liver transplant gave. She always would go out of her way to help others, and because of that, she donated her body to the St. Louis University School of Medicine to allow future doctors to see the positives and negatives of the treatment methods associated with her transplant.A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Franklin United Methodist Church in Franklin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Franklin United Methodist Church for the Carillon Fund.
