MATHIESON, Catherine Catherine Margaret Burns was born on April 30, 1920 in Milesville, South Dakota to Frank and Gertrude Burns. As a 3 pound preemie warmed in a woodstove after birth, she was unlikely to survive. But survive, she did. For 97 amazing years! She married Richard W. Mathieson and raised four children. She worked for JJ Newberry as the manager of the cafeteria, retiring after 20 years. During her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, volunteering at Sacred Heart Medical Center, gardening, crafting and decorating her home extensively at holidays. She is preceded in death by her husband and her son, Thomas. She was a long time parishioner of St. Charles Catholic Church and a Saint Teresa altar society member. Catherine passed away surrounded by family on July 10, 2017. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Kay Johnson, and sons, Timothy (Sandi) and Michael, as well as 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She loved her family, a good laugh, and tasty treats. We will miss her hugs, making her smile and watching her thoroughly enjoy a Frosty. A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 13th from 12-5 at Hennessey, 2203 N. Division Street. A Rosary will be held on Friday, July 14th at 10:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30. Both will take place at St. Charles Catholic Church, 4515 N. Alberta, Spokane. Reception immediately following in parish hall. Burial will take place at 2:00 on Friday the 14th at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N. Wall Street, Spokane.
