CATHY ANNE LENNOX, 69, passed away on October 24, 2016, at Kaiser Hospital in Riverside, California. She was born on February 13, 1947, in San Bernardino, California, to Marshall Timothy Griffin and Claire Jean Griffin (Valerius). Cathy grew up in San Bernardino, CA. She graduated from St. Bernadine High School in San Bernardino in 1964. After high school she attended college at San Bernardino Valley College and then transferred to University of California, Riverside, earning her Bachelors Degree in Political Science in 1968, and then her teaching credential in 1969. While at UCR, she enjoyed playing on the UCR basketball team and intermural volleyball. During her junior year she was a "Dornoch Dolly" and during her senior year was a resident advisor at Lothian Hall. Upon graduation, she worked in the San Bernardino Unified City School District for 35 years, teaching at Muscoy and Lytle Creek Elementary Schools. She was the district Teacher of the Year in 1988. She spent one restful (restless) year being retired in 2005; then went to work at the school her eldest daughter, Janis, started, All Saints' Carden Academy, where she worked until June 2016. Cathy met her husband, Rob, on December 16, 1966, while at UCR. They married on August 16, 1969, in San Bernardino, California. They were happily married for 47 years. If you attended a UC Riverside basketball game over the last 50 years, odds are you saw Cathy, dressed in her official black and whited striped jersey, smiling and sitting at center court between the team benches. It is there where she kept the official scorebook - a position she first embraced back in the late 1960s - charting the points and fouls for both teams. Cathy remained a fixture courtside through the 2015-16 season, keeping the book for well over 1,000 men's and women's basketball contests for the Highlanders during that time. She was inducted into the UCR Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of years of exceptional leadership to the UCR athletic program in 1997. Cathy is remembered for the dedication, love and compassion she showed all her students. She was a remarkable and outstanding teacher. She also was an excellent pianist, choir singer and was involved in many of her children's organizations. Above all, she was a loving mother and grandmother. Cathy was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Michael Lennox. Cathy is survived by her husband Robert of Riverside, California; her children Janis Bengtson (Jim), Lisa Lennox (David Feimer), Alicia Becker (Christopher), and Robert Lennox (Dinah); her brother Daniel Griffin (Peggy); her grandchildren Rachel, Catherine, Andrew, Emily, Michelle, Andre, Liam, and Xavier; and her nieces and nephews and other relatives. A memorial service will be held at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 3847 Terracina Drive, Riverside, on Friday, October 28, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the UCR Athletic Association or Path of Life Ministries, Riverside.
