Jun 14, 1931 - Jan 08, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Cecil U. Elliott June 14, 1931 January 7, 2017 Cecil U. Elliott passed away at his home on January 7, 2017 in Tacoma, Washington at the age of 85. He was born on June 14, 1931 to Jasper F. and Alice I. Elliott in Boston, Massachusetts. The family later moved to the Puyallup area. Cecil is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara Elliott. Interestingly, they were both born in the same hospital in Boston and met many years later while both were working at the Tacoma News Tribune. Other survivors include brother David Elliott; children Cheryl A. Davis and Robert N. Lewis; grandchildren Karin Lewis, Trevor Lewis, and Michael DeVose; and nieces Bonnie, Debbie, Betty, and Shannon and their children. He was predeceased by both his parents and his sister, Janice C. Geene. As a young man Cecil attended Puyallup High School and the College of Puget Sound (UPS), where he enjoyed playing basketball along with his studies. Cecil was employed for over 30 years at the Tribune Publishing Company, and retired as Vice-President of Employee Relations. He also served in the Army National Guard for over 20 years. Cec was very active in the Credit Union movement, serving as president of several of them. He was also President of the Pierce County Chapter of Credit Unions; Director of the Washington Credit Union League; and was the Credit Union Man of the Year in 1977. Cecil served on the Pierce County Medical Bureau Board as a director. Cec belonged to the Tacoma Elks Lodge #174 since 1961, and was an active member of many committees. Cec was an outgoing and affable man. He walked, played golf, went to sporting events, and generally made new friends wherever he went. He was dedicated to his loving wife Barbara and was "always there" for her two adult children, Cheryl and Rob. While Cecil had many titles in his life, the one he most cherished was Grandpa. He adored and admired his three grandchildren, Karin, Trevor, and Michael. They were truly the light of his life. Cecil Elliott will be laid to rest at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. A memorial reception will be held at Narrows Glen Senior Living Retirement Community in Tacoma on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at 1pm. All are welcome.
