Chalmer Douglas Miller, 76Chalmer Douglas Miller, 76, of Fowler, passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2014, in his home. Chal was born on October 6th, 1938, and was the son of Silas and Jewell (Utterbach) Miller. He graduated from Oxford High School, Oxford, Indiana and continued his education at
Purdue University, receiving a B.S. in Political Science and Economics and his Master's in Education. Chal taught at Boswell and Benton Central High Schools. He taught Government and Economics and in the summer, taught Driver's Education and was the manager of the Moses Fowler Swimming Pool in Fowler. Chal coached varsity track at Benton Central, winning a sectional title in boys' track. He was Benton Central High School's first girls' varsity basketball coach and was the varsity swim team coach. In 1977, Chal received his Commodity Brokers' License and became co-founder of A/C Trading company in Fowler. Chal served as President of the Fowler Town council and was the Benton County Republican Committee Chairman.His hobbies included: golf, carpentry, travelling, he was a geology enthusiast, and an avid Purdue fan. Chal, also, went on numerous mission trips to Mexico and to Texas. He was a cancer survivor, and was a volunteer driver for Benton County Cancer. In 1963, Chal married Patricia (Boma) Miller and they had three children: Patrice (Jim) Gerlack, Fowler, Chad Miller, Lafayette, and Cassandra (Eric) Hilleboe, West Lafayette. In 1982, Chal married his current wife, Diane (Gibson) Miller, and added more children to his family: Susan (Michael) Brouillette, Lafayette, Donald Bush, Dallas, TX; Mark (Wesley) Bush, Atlanta, GA, and Denis Lapko, Phoenix, AZ.He leaves behind two brothers: Norman (Karen) Miller, West Lafayette, and Ramon (Lois) Miller, Oxford, and was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marilyn (Alvin) Fischbach.He was blessed with eleven beautiful grandchildlren: Karli (Gerlach) Quick, Chelsey (Gerlach) Riddell, Cale Gerlach, Cort Gerlach, Charity Gerlach, Keane Gerlach, Paige Hilleboe, Presley Hilleboe, Daniel Bush, Drake Bush, Gwyneth Bush; and two great-grandchildren: Keira Gerlach, and Gentry Riddell.Chal was a good man who deeply cared for his family, friends, community and country. A gathering of family and friends will be held in Fowler, IN at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, on Sunday, October 12, from 2:00pm until 5:00pm with rosary following. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Monday, October 13, at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Benton County Cancer or to Sacred Heart Catholic School.
