Funeral services for Charlene Van Oort, 81, of Rochester will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Rochester Covenant Church. Visitation will be from 5 p.m to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 , at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Oakwood East Cemetery. She died on Nov. 28, 2016, at her home. Charlene Wirsing was born on Dec. 11, 1934, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Stephen and Grace (McLean) Wirsing. Charlene graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1953. On Aug. 22,1953, she married Jay Van Oort and the couple lived in Iowa and Washington before moving to Rochester in 1959. She worked as the Deputy Olmsted County Treasurer, retiring in 1994. Charlene was a member of Rochester Covenant Church. She enjoyed skiing, golfing, reading, crocheting and playing Bridge. She enjoyed spending the winters in Casa Grande, Ariz. She loved her family and crocheted afghans for all the grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Jay of Rochester; Steve (Sue) and Craig (Carol), both of Rochester and Karen Hicks (Calvin) of Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Richard and Karl. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Charlene Van Oort can be made to Mayo Clinic, Department of Development for arthritis research and treatment.
