LOS ANGELES — Charles E. "Chuckie" Artist, age 67, formally of Xenia, Ohio passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015 after a lengthy illness at the Lakewood Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles, California. Chuckie was born on October 30, 1948 in Dayton, Ohio to Earl Edward Artist and Phyllis M. ( Jefferson) Artist. He was honorable discharged from the U.S. Army and was retired after 30 years of service from the Department of Water and Power, LA County, California as a machine operator. He was preceded in death by both parents and a younger brother Alan "Dickie" Artist of Springfield, Ohio and a cousin Ronald Wayne Gray of Xenia, Ohio. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 13 years, Brenda (Vick) Artist; sons Ivan of Compton, California; Ronald Eugene Artist of Phoenix, Arizona and daughter Channa Rae Artist of Seattle, Washington. He is also survived by an Aunt Beverly Jackson and cousins Gerald M. Porter, Sr. (Betty) and Gerald M. Porter, Jr. all of Xenia, Ohio; and Marsha Porter, Lynn King, Parton King, Nicole Walton all of Dayton, Ohio and Elena (Peacock) Artist of Washington. His memory will be kept alive by a host of friend and classmates from Lincoln Elementary, East and Central Jr High Schools, Xenia and Springfield South High School where he graduated in 1966; and his life-long friends Larry Edwards (Lynn) of Clifton, Ohio and Thomas Scrivens and Arlin Jackson of Xenia, Ohio. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Harrison & Ross Mortuary, 436 Compton Blvd, Compton, CA 90221 (301)-667-4052. Visitation was held on Tuesday November 24 with services to follow on November 25 at 10:00am with the Rev. Larry Lee officiating. Interment will be at the V.A.
