Charles "Charlie Boy" Bates, Jr.ZANESVILLE: Charles "Charlie Boy" Bates Jr., 79 of Zanesville died at 4:12 AM Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Genesis Hospice & Palliative Care .He was born on May 22, 1936 in Zanesville the son of Charles Homer Bates Sr. and Katerina (Sauerwein) Bates.Charles was a United States Marine Veteran and met his wife, Mitsue while he was stationed in Japan. He was a union pipefitter with local #495, Cambridge Ohio and was also a lifetime member of the Blue Front Café patrons. He is survived by his children, Patricia Bates of Zanesville, Michael (Rebecca) Bates of Columbus, and Tina (Steve) Stanton of Nashport; grandchildren, Kiyomi, Thomas, Tasha Stump, Michael, Mark Bates; and several great grandchildren; a sister, "Lil" Meluch; and a brother, Bob Bates both of Zanesville.Charles was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his wife, Mitsue (Sugiyama) Bates; and three sisters, Charlotte, Betty and Hilda.Public graveside funeral service with Military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery with Chaplain Tim Patton officiating.
