Charles Bernard David Gonter Sr.FRESNO: Charles Bernard David Gonter Sr., age 57, of Fresno, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 2, 1959, in Dover, Ohio to Paul and Mary Christine (Kessler) Gonter. Dave or Chuck as many knew him, graduated from Ridgewood High School and then joined the United States Marine Corp, serving his country until 1981. Dave worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren who were the light of his life; he enjoyed fishing, and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. He was a member of Sheppard's Christian Assembly of Coshocton. Dave loved to have fun, had a huge heart and a great sense of humor. He will truly be missed by all. Along with his father, Paul and Marilyn Shaffer-Gonter of Tyndall, Dave is survived by his daughter, Odessa (Eugene Devlin) Gonter of Fresno; son, Jared (Rhonda Proffit) Wiggins of Plainfield; six grandchildren, Hunter, Riley, Dylan, Teagan, Aubriana, and Chase; brother, Paul (Joan) Gonter of Fresno; two sisters, Meg Gonter of Zanesville and Barb (Jeff) Howard of Pataskala; very special friend, Cindy Matthews of Zanesville; numerous nieces and nephews; and many "City" cousins, who all loved him dearly. Dave is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Gonter, his son, Charles Bernard David Gonter Jr.; two grandchildren, Talayan and Taylor; his brother, Carl Lee Gonter; and his nephew, Marshall Gonter. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home and from 10:00am to 11:00 am the day of the funeral. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Starkey Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Coshocton County Memory Gardens with the Coshocton County Honor Guard performing military services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dave's name to Sheppard Christian Assembly Church. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
