Mr. Charles Buford Ring, 93, of Lake City, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Avalon Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Lake City after an extended illness. He was born on January 19, 1922 in Dante, VA to the late John William and Maude Milhorn Ring. Buford served in the U.S. Army in
World War II and the
Korean War. He was the recipient of two
Bronze Stars. He was a 50 year member of the Clinchfield Masonic Lodge AM & FM #256, Dante, Va. In 1948, he received his 32nd degree in Masonry in the Philippine Islands. He was a member of Clinch Valley Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #152, St. Paul, VA. Also he was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Lake City, FL. Buford retired from Clinchfield Coal Company, Dante, VA, and also retired from Occidental Petroleum Company in White Springs, FL. He played baseball when stationed at various U.S. Army bases in the Philippines and the United States. He was the player/manager for the St. Paul Saints, St. Paul, VA. Also he enjoyed playing golf at Quail Heights Golf Club as well as Lake City Country Club in Lake City, FL. Buford was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years: Stella E. Litton Ring; sisters: Lorine A. Ring Mullins and Mary Ann Ring Smith; brother, Fred G. Ring; son, Charles E. "Chuck" Ring. He is survived by his children: Nancy Charlene Ring of Lake City, FL; Susan (Wynn) Hasty of Colonial Heights, VA; daughter-in-law: Joy Ring of Lebanon, VA; grandchildren: Jennifer (Mike) Aulgur, Jason (Tiffani) Hasty, Jamie Hasty, Ashley Ring, Amber (Stewart) Hancock and Aston Ring; great-grandchildren: Emma Ruth Hasty, Jonathan Aulgur, Stella R. Hasty and Knox Hancock; bother: Thomas W. (Wyvonna) Ring of West Jefferson, NC and sister Rita Jo (Steve) Banner of Castlewood, VA, along with several extended family members also survive. Graveside funeral services for Mr. Ring will be at Castlewood Funeral Home with interment in Temple Hill Cemetery in Castlewood, VA.
