Charles Collier Matthews of Destrehan, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2016 at the age of 59, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved father of Kelsey Matthews Pollock and her husband Zachary of Destrehan. Son of the late Robert and Emma Jane Prophet Matthews. Brother Robert "Robin" Matthews Jr. and his wife Lindsay of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and the late Richard Matthews. Also survived by his beloved nieces. Charlie was born on July 31, 1957 in Roswell, New Mexico. He graduated from the University of Houston in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Land Management. After obtaining his degree, Charlie worked over 30 years in the oil and gas industry as a highly accomplished Data Salesperson. He formed many friendships while living in Houston and Midland before moving to New Orleans in 1985. Charlie welcomed his only child, Kelsey Jane, in May of 1992 who quickly became one of his proudest achievements. His daughter remembers him as a kind, selfless, funny, and loving father who encouraged her to pursue her goals all while having fun. Charlie was an awarded chili cook who loved life as much as people loved his recipe. He was a hilarious individual, car racing fanatic, and was passionate about making the world turn with laughter. Charlie was an active and dedicated member of the St. Charles United Methodist Church in Destrehan for 20 years, and played an integral role in establishing the church's annual fall festival. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Service at St. Charles United Methodist Church, 1905 Ormond Blvd. Destrehan, LA 70047 on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with a celebration to follow.
