Charles CopherAbilene, TXCharles William Copher, 79 of Abilene, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 25, 2017 at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.Charles was born on October 15, 1937 in Charlie, Texas to Dewey and Ruth Taylor Copher. Charles married Frances Lilly and in 1956, they moved to Dallas where Charles started working for several freight companies as a delivery driver. They moved back to Abilene in 1974 when Charles bought his own diesel truck and flatbed trailer. He started delivering cotton bales to Houston and got a job with Charter Oil Company as a shipping Dock Supervisor. In 1987, he and Frances moved back to Abilene for good and Charles started driving trucks for Old South Mattress Company and Toys-R-Us. His last delivery job was with Tige Boats. Charles enjoyed helping people in need. He did everything from mowing yards to buying food and giving it away to anyone in need. He became known as the "Banana Man" at Hendrick Medical Center, as well as the "Pizza Man." Always quick to offer a helping hand, Charles had a servant's heart that will be missed by those who knew him and by those he helped anonymously. He enjoyed singing and worshiping God with the members at the Woodlawn Church of Christ. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and humanitarian.Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Ruth Copher; son Paul W. Copher, infant grandson Vincent Copher, brothers Dewey Jr. and Clifford Copher and sisters Pauline, Helen and Christy. He is survived by his wife Frances Copher; sons Gregory Copher and Mark Copher and wife Sheila; daughter Cynthia Davis; brother Eddy Joe Copher; grandchildren Shanon Copher and wife Holly, Jeffery Copher, Kelly Copher, Nicolas Copher and wife Tia, Tyler Copher and wife Kelly, Kyle Copher, Travys Copher and wife Mary, Holly Johnson and husband Brian, Amy Rogillio and husband Michael, and Sherry Allen; plus ten great-grandchildren.Condolences can be offered to the family online at
