Charles Douglas (Doug) Gertis Charles Douglas "Doug" Gertis, 62, of Beaufort, SC passed away on November 30th, 2016. A native son of Beaufort, Doug was born on November 14th, 1954 to the late Freddie Gertis and the late Dorothy Sutphin Gertis. He is also preceded in death by his sister Shippie Gertis. Doug's father instilled in him a passion and respect for the lowcountry waters and wildlife, and his love for both never waivered. An avid outdoorsman and local fishing guide for countless years, Captain Doug knew the rivers like the back of his hand. There is nothing Capt. Doug enjoyed more than spending time with his family and friends in our beautiful lowcounty. Doug adored and had a great respect for his surviving children, daughter Savannah Gertis of Cairo, Egypt and son Christopher Gertis of Beaufort, SC. For the past 11 years, Doug shared his life with his loving companion, Amy Banks. Also surviving are Amy's mother, Louise Morgan and many friends with whom he shared a special connection. A memorial service will be held on December 12th at 1pm at Saint John's Lutheran Church located at 157 Lady's Island Drive. Following the service all are invited to celebrate Captain Doug's life at the Back Porch Grill in Port Royal. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations in the memory of Captain Doug be made the Coastal Conservation Association. Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
