Charles Edward (Ed) Baldwin passed away Monday, March 2, 2009. He was born on July 4, 1918, in Garfield, Wash., to Charles Henry Baldwin and Grace Edith Van Dorn, the oldest of three sons. Ed was raised in Spokane, Wash. In 1932 his father died, leaving a widow and three sons. Ed was left to be the man of the house at age 14. In 1935 Ed began a long and enjoyable career in the optical industry. He officially retired in 2001. However, he continued to lend a helping hand in the family business until the last week of February. He thoroughly loved the optical business and has been recognized as a pioneer and leader in the industry. He was one of the finest opticians, becoming a respected member of the Optician's Guild of America. Ed joined the Army in 1942 and became a battalion aide in charge of medics and aide-men. He served in France, Germany and Czechoslovakia. He received numerous commendations and awards for his service. After the war Ed moved to Seattle, Wash., where he met and married Lenna Brinkerhoff on Sept. 6, 1946. They were married over 62 years until the passing of Lenna in 2008. A convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ed has faithfully served in various callings in the church. His fondest memories came from serving in the Provo and Logan LDS temples. Ed loved to play golf. His passion was passed on to his son, grandsons and great-grandson. He loved to read and watch the birds at his bird feeder. Ed leaves behind one brother, Bert (Ruby); his son, Robert (Laurie Yeates); grandsons: Ryan (Jenna), Jordan (Joylynn); and granddaughter, Elizabeth Boehme (Kammeron). He also leaves behind five great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wellsville 7th Ward meetinghouse, 660 South 100 West, Wellsville, and one hour prior to the funeral Saturday. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009, at noon. Interment will be in Emery, Utah, on Monday, March 9, 2009.
