AUBURN — Charles Richard Freed, age 88, of Auburn died following a brief illness without struggle or pain surrounded by several family members on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at DeKalb Health in Auburn. Charles was born on March 31, 1928, to Harold and Ruth (Campbell) Freed. He graduated from Ashley High School in 1946. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was deployed to Korea from 1951 to 1952. Charles married Lowneta Mae Stuckey on November 28, 1953, in Waterloo. She preceded him in death on March 19, 2014. He worked as a carpenter for many years for Paul Souder Construction in Auburn. He was an active member of the Hamilton Church of Christ. He also taught Sunday school for several years. Charles lived a life full of blessing and was a conduit of God's blessing to his family and many others. He was careful in his craft, faithful in serving the church and loving to those who surrounded him. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and John Reed of Bremen, Indiana; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Marti Freed of Hamilton; four grandchildren, Andrew Reed and his wife, Naa Marteki, Sarah Reed, Stephanie and Tim Hine and Drew and Kyra Freed; four great-grandchildren,; Naomi Reed, Lucas Reed, Griffin Hine and Amelia Hine and a sister, Dorothy Ankney of Naples, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lowneta; sister Doris Sanders; and brother Everett Freed. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, from 3-7 p.m. at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 South Wayne Street in Waterloo. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home. Officiating the funeral service will be Rev. Jeff Alexander of the Hamilton Church of Christ. Burial will take place in the Waterloo Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Hamilton Church of Christ or Roy and Marianne Badongen Missions. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.fellerandclark.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Feller and Clark Funeral Home in Waterloo.
