Charles Funnell "Chuck" DeCoudres Charles Funnell "Chuck" DeCoudres, a true Long Beach native, was born on November 28, 1922, in his family home on Pacific Avenue. His parents, Charles Greene and Dorothy Funnell DeCoudres, raised Chuck with his older sister, Mary Alice. An avid athlete and sports fan, Chuck was on both the golf and football teams at LB Poly where he played tackle, was football team captain, and graduated in 1940. He attended UC Berkeley on a football scholarship, was a proud member of Sigma Nu, and earned a political science degree in 1943. In 1945 he married his beautiful high school sweetheart, Yvonne Garnier, another Berkeley grad, who passed away in 2001. Chuck and Yvonne raised four children in their home on Lemon Avenue, Richard ("Co"), Robert ("Rube"), Cecilia ("Dee") and Charlyn ("Char"). A devoted and caring father, Chuck created many fun memories for his children and worked diligently as an insurance broker to provide for his family.
