Raysich, Charles JohnCharles (Chuck) John Raysich, Lt. Col., USAF Ret., of Montgomery, Ala, died peacefully in his home after a long illness, surrounded by his loved ones and cherished pets on October 19, 2017. He was 88 years old.Chuck is survived by the love of his life for 35 years, Lynda Turner of Montgomery, AL; his children, Mark Raysich of Rockledge, FL, and Stefanie Raysich of Apex, NC; sister, Julia Patterson of Pittsburgh, PA; nephews, Bernard Storer of Pittsburgh, PA and Danny Pastor, of Pittsburgh, PA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dragan and Mary (Zamaria) Raysich of Pittsburg, PA; and his sister, Eve Pastor, of Pittsburgh, PA, and brother Nicholas Raysich, of Pittsburgh, PA.Chuck was born on November 12, 1928 in Rankin, PA to Dragan and Mary Raysich. He attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA graduating with a degree in education, and post-graduate work at Ohio State University and Pennsylvania State University. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 23 years of service with the United States Air Force where he worked in public relations, with notable assignments including Deputy Editor-in-Chief for the Stars and Stripes - Europe and his last assignment as the Public Relations Director of Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL. He continued his career for 30 years as the Public Relations Director for the United Way of Montgomery, AL where he enjoyed his God-given passion for helping people. Chuck was also one of the founders of American Sweeping Inc. in Montgomery, AL in 1990.In addition to his illustrious career, Chuck was the recipient of the 2013 Christ the King Medal from the Archdiocese of Mobile for the Holy Spirit Parish in Montgomery, AL, and the Seniors of Achievement Award from the Montgomery Area Council on Aging (MACOA) in 1999 for his lifetime of community service.Chuck is remembered as being loving, driven, brilliant, a devout Catholic who cherished and worshipped the love of the Lord, a dedicated and long-time member of Queen of Mercy Catholic Church and Holy Spirit Catholic Church, both in Montgomery, AL, an excellent singer, having a love of all creatures great and small, and a HUGE Notre Dame, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Auburn fan.A viewing is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 23rd, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Montgomery, AL, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow in the parish hall. Father McKenna will officiate the Mass. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Chuck's life. His body will be laid to rest in Pittsburgh, PA.
