Charles Allen Johnson, 68, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at the V.A. Medical Hospital with his family by his side.
Charles was born April 16, 1950, in Youngstown Ohio, to Clarence Duncan and Dorothy Johnson, and was helped reared by Jessie Owens. In 1968 Charles received his high school diploma from East High School. He enlisted in the U.S Navy in 1974, receiving an honorable discharge at the completion of his service.
Charles received his welding certification and went on to work for Republic Truscon Steel Company, retiring after many years of service. He was a member of St. Peter's Baptist Church, and a member of the Steelworkers Union. Charles was always the life of the party, he loved to dance and listen to music, he enjoyed debating current events, grilling, but most of all he loved being with his family.
He leaves to cherish his beloved memory, his wife, Shirley Johnson; three children, Ayanna Nortey and Brandy Johnson both of Atlanta, Georgia, and LaSwasa Johnson of Youngstown, and a Granddaughter he raised, Kiywana Johnson; two brothers, Robert (Ellen) West of Youngstown, and Melvin (Blanchie) West of Pittsburgh, PA ; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Johnson; farther, Clarence Duncan; a daughter; two brothers, Lester and Charles West.
