Charles L. Siracuse, age 89, of Meshoppen, and formerly of South Montrose, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley in Wilkes-Barre. He was also a resident at Golden Living in Tunkhannock for nine years. Charles was born on February 16, 1926 the son of the late Charles and Nellie (Hawley) Siracuse. He attended Auburn Center High School. He then served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Columbia. Charles married his wife, Leona, in 1945 in her hometown, Thibodaux, La. He was employed as a machinist and he worked on an oilrig off the shore of Louisiana for the companies McDermott and Guy Scroggens. He was a member of the Gardner-Warner American Legion Post #154 in Elk Lake, PA and the VFW Post #5642 Ayres-Stone Post in Montrose. Gardening, fishing, and farming were a love of Charles. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. Charles is survived by his brother, Daniel E. Siracuse, Sr. and wife Linda of South Montrose; sister, Rose Hymel of Louisianna; brother in law and best buddy, Niles Cokely Sr.; niece, Terri Siracuse; and many special nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Leona R. Siracuse on June 10, 2005; sister, Nellie Cokely; stepbrother, Rexford Lott; and special nephew, Daniel E. Siracuse Jr.Funeral services for Charles were held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Meshoppen, with the Reverend Charles Bishop of the Transue and Elk Lake Community Churches officiating. Family and friends called on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date at the Jersey Hill Cemetery.
