LAGRANGE — Charles E. 'Charlie' Leckrone Sr., 74, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at his residence in LaGrange, Ind. He was born on July 18, 1939, to Keith and Gertrude (Humes) Leckrone in Warsaw, Ind. He married Beverly (Miller) Leckrone on June 11, 2006. Together, between the two, they have several children: Charles E. Leckrone Jr. of Savonburg, Kan., Sherry (James) Caudill of Olive Hill, Ky., Kimberly Leckrone of Savonburg, Kan., Nila Born of Columbia City, Ind., Lila Leckrone of Sturgis, Mich., James (Roxanna) Shaffer of Goshen, Ind., Annie (Ralph) Harker of Howe, Ind., and Malinda Shaffer of Prairie, Miss. He has 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Martha (Butch) Thomas of Fishers, Ind., Diana (Phil) Albert of Pierceton, Ind., and Jan (Tom) Whitman of Fishers, Ind. He has numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Tammy Hughes; one sister, Patty Hughes; and one brother, Keith Leckrone. Charlie attended Green Chapel Redeemed Church in Wolcottville, Ind. He was employed at Rural King in Angola for 6 1/2 years where he was know as the "Popcorn man." He loved being outside, fishing and barbecuing on the grill. He enjoyed John Deer tractors, old trucks, and racing. His corny joke was his specialty. He was on various counsels in Kansas which included the Water Board, Volunteer Fire Department and Ruritian. Visitation will be today, Thursday, May 29, 2014, from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Carney-Frost Funeral Home in LaGrange, Ind. Funeral services will be Friday, May 30, 2014, at noon at Carney-Frost Funeral Home with Pastor Melvin Heiniger of the Green Chapel Redeemed Church in Wolcottville, Ind., officiating with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Howe, Ind.
