Charles N. RolandMechanicsburgCharles N Roland, age 86, passed away at home on July 28, 2016, of lung cancer. His wish to remain at home during his illness was fulfilled by his loving children and Hospice of Central Pennsylvania. Charles was born on January 7, 1930 in Adams County. He was the son of the late Nelson and Florence (Thompson) Roland.Charles was a graduate of the former East Berlin High School, and was a member of St Paul's United Church of Christ, Mechanicsburg.You may remember Charlie from his over 30 years as a truck driver for Wengers Dairy, formerly Irwins Dairy and also Lenkerbrook Dairy, which was located in Camp Hill.Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, and could be described as an expert problem solver and jack of all trades. There was nothing he could not fix or repair. In later years, he remained active repairing lawn mowers and joining his friends for breakfast a few times a week.Charles was the widower of Gretta F (Hurley) Roland who passed away in 2005 after 53 years of marriage. He also leaves behind his four devoted children, Blaine Roland (Patti), Craig Roland (Connie), Rhonda Roland Gutshall (P Dave), and Charles N Roland II (Brenda); as well as eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by siblings John Roland and Dorothy Smith (Roland). He is survived by his loving sister, Bernice M Holder (Roland) of Manchester, who will miss him dearly.A private service was held to celebrate Charlies life at the home of his daughter
