GASS, III, DR. REV. CHARLIE AROLDr. Charlie Gass, commonly known as Chuck, passed unexpectedly on October 29, 2017. An avid fisherman, he passed peacefully, in his sleep, coming back from a fishing trip. He was born on December 5, 1951 to Charlie and Marjorie Gass is Knoxville, Tennessee. He earned his Doctorate of Ministry at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983 and continued on to pursue training and certifications in Pastoral and Samaritan Counseling and psychotherapy. In his life he gladly served as a Viet Nam veteran for the Air Force, a pastor, a marriage counselor, a pastoral counselor, a chaplain for the Gainesville Police Dept., a teacher at SFCC and lastly, a chaplain for the VA hospital in Gainesville, Fl. His greatest contribution there was as a member of the psychiatric and residential substance abuse treatment teams. He changed the lives of many with his wisdom, training, and insight. He loved family, his faith, his fellow veterans, Tae Kwon Do, the Gators, fishing and Chi gung. He loved, he practiced, and he taught. He is survived by his wife, his sister and brother-in-law, and our combined families in-cluding five sons and daughters-in-law, 3 adopted sons, 11 grandchildren, and lots of nieces, nephews, cousins. We will miss him greatly. Services will be held at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center auditorium on 11/18/17 and are open to friends and family.
