Charlotte Enger JonesWilliamsburg, IA - Charlotte Enger Jones, 92, of Williamsburg, Iowa passed away on October 26, 2017. She was born on February 11, 1925 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Harry W. Enger and Harriet (Birdsall) Enger. She spent her childhood years in Claremont, South Dakota, What Cheer, Iowa, and Johnson City and Chattanooga, Tennessee.She attended the
University of Iowa, graduating in 1947 with a B.A. in History and English. She was married for 14 years to the Iowa-born artist John Paul Jones. They lived in Norman, Oklahoma, Iowa City, Iowa, and Los Angeles, California. She returned to Iowa City in 1963 to pursue studies in Education and Counseling, receiving master's degrees in 1965 and 1970. In 1967 she began a 23 year career at the Keokuk campus of the Southeast Iowa Community College as a faculty member and guidance counselor. Upon retirement, she moved to Coralville, Iowa where she spent 19 years before moving to the assisted living community at Highland Ridge in Williamsburg.Charlotte was involved in many activities and pursuits, including Democratic party politics, Great Books Club, volunteering at the Coralville library, travel, extensive reading on many subjects, creative writing, and a lifelong love of cinema, music, literature and the arts. She researched and wrote an article entitled "Memories of Co-op Dorm Living: 1931-1955" which is archived in the University of Iowa Library Special Collections.She served as a board member of Lee County (Iowa) Mental Health Association and was recognized by an entry in an edition of Who's Who of American Women.She is survived by daughter Leah Jones of Tampa, Florida, son Shawn Jones (Barbara Johnson) of Niantic, Connecticut, and granddaughter Kristen Jones of Chicago, Illinois.
