Chiyoko NishimoriSomis, CAChiyoko Nishimori was born on August 3, 1927 in Inglewood, California. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on June 29, 2017 in Camarillo, Calif. Chiyoko attended Weisburn and Lakewood Grammar Schools until her family was relocated to the Santa Anita Assembly Center due to WWII. Her family was supposed to go to Jerome Internment camp but her father moved them to Colorado to harvest sugar beets. The family moved many times following the crops. Chiyoko graduated from Fort Lupton High School in 1946. In 1949 her family moved to Oxnard to farm. She married her husband Minobu Nishimori on April 6, 1951. They lived in Oxnard until they finally settled in Somis, Calif. in 1979. They were happily married for 61 years when Minobu passed away. Her hobbies include spending quality time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a passion for traveling the world, playing solitaire, golf, and mahjong with her dear friends at Las Posas Country Club, crocheting blankets, reading, participating in numerous activities at the Oxnard Buddhist Temple, and gambling at Chumash and Las Vegas.She is survived by her children, Steve (Karen), Lori (Yoshi) Usuki, Craig, Sharon; grandchildren, Nicole (Chris) Yokoyama, Kourtney Nishimori, Alyssa (Mazi) Sarahang, Steve Nishimori, Lauren (Lam) Trinh, Ashlyn and Michael Usuki, Kylie (Dan) Kelley, Evan and Troy Vigiano; and four great-grandchildren, Mason Vigiano, Bryce Yokoyama, Keira Kelley, and Sora Sarahang. She is also survived by her siblings, Hisao (Hisako) Hiji, Lily (Frank) Sawai, Mae (Shogo) Kanamori, Frank (Betty) Hiji and Robert (Harriet) Hiji. She was preceded in death by her husband Minobu Nishimori, her siblings Alice (Bill) Yokoyama, and Tsugio (Betty T.) Hiji. Our family would like to send our sincerest gratitude to Dr. John Walters, Dr. Keith Eilerman, Dr. Gary Mo, and the nurses at St. John?s Pleasant Valley hospital for their compassionate care. Funeral services will be held at the Oxnard Buddhist Temple, 250 South ?H? Street, Oxnard, Calif. 93030 on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 11:00 AM.
