This obituary is administered by:
Christopher A. SchmidtPoughkeepsie - Chris A. Schmidt, 88, of Poughkeepsie passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at home, surrounded by his family. Chris was born on March 22, 1929, in New York City, to the late Fred and Lillian (McCrief) Schmidt. On May 24, 1969, he married Joan M. Dangieri who survives at home in Poughkeepsie. He is also survived by his daughter, Melissa Godron, her husband, Marshall, and grandson, Mason, of Concord, CA; his son, David, of Poughkeepsie; his twin sister, Carita McAllister of Hyde Park; a brother-in-law; Tom Dangieri (Lorraine) of Algonquin, Illinois, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Fred and a sister, Mary. After graduating from Arlington High School in 1947, Chris began working at I.B.M. in Poughkeepsie. During his tenure there, he also had the opportunity to work in various other locations: San Jose, CA, Endicott, NY, and Hursley, England, on several I.B.M. systems before retiring as a Senior Engineer in March 1990.In 1951, he joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. Though his stint in the Army was not long, his signature crewcut stayed with him forever. He obtained his private pilot's license in the early 60s and enjoyed trips up and down the Hudson. In addition to flying over the river, he also loved boating and spent a lot of time on the water as well. Chris was an avid skier and belonged to the Hudson Valley Ski Club, where he met Joan. Chris enjoyed 27 years of retirement and actively participated in camping, playing tennis, softball with the Poughkeepsie Seniors, and golf (he was very proud of achieving two holes in one: one while playing golf at Myrtle Beach, SC, and the other on the 5th hole at McCann Golf Course in Poughkeepsie).Whether it was a tram in Disney World or a boat cruise down the Seine in Paris, Chris and his family never went anywhere without running into someone he knew whose life he had touched. His stance, authority, integrity, kindness, and patience were always a model to behold. He will be greatly missed. There will be no visitation. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at St. Mary's Church, 231 Church Street, Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery on Route 9. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hudson Valley Hospice, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603, , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or a .Arrangements are under the direction of William G.
