Cindy Morrianna Peterson (nee Hucul) passed away unexpectedly at her home in Smithfield, Utah, on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at the age of 48 years. Cindy was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on June 23, 1961, to Heather Johanna Dale Hucul and Alec Alexander Hucul. Cindy's father was a member of the RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) and her family resided at Uplands Air Base until 1968. When her father left the RCAF, the family moved to Appleton, Ontario, in 1968. In 1972, they again moved to Almonte, Ontario, Canada. Cindy attended Almonte District High School. She was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, in 1980. In 1981, while attending Rexburg College in Idaho, she met Kallen Peterson. Cindy and Kallen were married and sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on May 22, 1981. Their first child, Joshua Allen Peterson, was born on Nov. 16, 1982, their second child, Ariane Kalleen Peterson, was born on Aug. 12, 1984. Cindy received her nursing degree at Weber State University, Nursing Program, in 1991. She worked on the Mother/Baby Unit at Logan Regional Hospital up until the time of her passing. Cindy is survived by her husband Walter "Kallen" Peterson; son Joshua Allen (Symony) Peterson; and daughter, Ariane Kalleen Peterson (Adam) Jorgensen, all of Smithfield, Utah; three grandchildren, who Cindy was "Nana" to: Remi Mae, Cheyane Rae and Hailee Elizabeth. Also surviving are sisters: Elizabeth Shelley Hucul (Bernie Hucul) of Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada; Alexandra Melissa Hucul (Bob Martens) of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; and Sherry Selena Hucul of Perth, Ontario, Canada; two nieces, Angela and Maggie Mae; six nephews, Ben, Jordan, Alec, William, Jacob and George; grandmother Nana Jo; grandfather Armand Dale; and her aunt, JoAnne Dale. Cindy was predeceased by her parents Heather and Alexander Hucul; and her mother and father in-law, Patricia and Ray Peterson. Cindy was a friend to many. She cared about the welfare of others and was intensely compassionate. She loved to joke and laugh. She enjoyed gardening and liked animals. Cindy was extremely talented in the creative arts. Painting, writing, sewing and scrapbooking were some of her favorite pastimes. She also enjoyed Facebook, playing games and communicating with family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at the Smithfield 11th Ward Chapel, 79 E. 200 South. Viewings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 S. Main, Smithfield, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com.
