Schmieder, Claire F.Claire Francis Schmieder, age 91, of New London, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Kindred Hearts in New London after a long illness following a stroke in 2011. She was born on January 4, 1926 the late Paul and Florence (Ehlert) Sontag in Milwaukee. Claire was united in marriage to Donald Dudley Schmieder on August 20, 1953 in the City of Milwaukee. She loved gardening, cooking, cutting out recipes, playing sheepshead on Friday nights and celebrating the Christmas season. Claire worked 3rd shift most of her life at various places, while running the Medina Post office out of her house during the day.Claire is survived by her children, Linda (Jack) Schreiber, Mitchell Schmieder, Myrtle Draheim-Schmieder, Joanne (Timothy) Alberts, Diane Schmieder, Donna (Loren) Wheeler and Mark Schmieder; 5 step-sons; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by a sisters Joyce (Len) Bania, Alice Moss and Ruthann, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Claire was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Paul, Peter, Leonard and Ronald; grandson, Christopher Lee Wheeler and great-granddaughter, Amber Rose Mastey.A memorial service for Claire will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London on Monday, November 6, 2017. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank doctors, nurses and staffs at Kindred Hearts, St. Joseph Residence, ThedaCare Hospital- New London and Compasses Hospice for the loving care over the many years.
