Sister Claire Mulè died at 12:30 a.m. at Seton Residence in Evansville, Indiana on February 16, 2017. Sister Claire was born on May 28, 1930 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Gabriel and Catherine Amato Mulè. She graduated from Mount Carmel Academy in 1946, attended Ursuline College and entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis, Missouri in 1948. After initial formation, Sister Claire was sent to St. Vincent Elementary and High Schools in Donaldsonville, Louisiana to minister as a teacher and librarian until 1962 when she was missioned to St. Joseph School in New Orleans to serve as Principal. Sister Claire received a B.S. in Education from Fontbonne College in St. Louis, Missouri and a M.Ed. in Education Administration from Loyola University in New Orleans. In 1968 Sister served as Principal at Notre Dame School in Price, Utah until 1969 when she returned to New Orleans to minister in the same capacity at St. Stephen Grade School until 1972 and at St. Joseph High School until 1975. Sister Claire then began her service in New Orleans as School Librarian at Seton Academy until 1994 and at Redeemer-Seton High School until 2005. She was the recipient of the Sister Mary Aquin Lorio Award of the New Orleans Chapter of the Catholic Library Association during this time. Following Hurricane Katrina, Sister was sent to Austin, Texas to serve in the Ministry of Prayer at the Thirty-First Street Residence and then to Providence Park in Waco, Texas until 2009. She then returned to New Orleans to continue the Ministry of Prayer at Chateau De Notre Dame until 2016 when she was missioned to Seton Residence in Evansville. Sister was preceded in death by her sisters Mary C. Mulè, Sarah Mulè, Sister Gabriel Mulè, D.C., Rose Noto, Corinne Banfield and her brothers Sam, Anthony and John Mulè. She is survived by her sister Margaret Ann Mulè and her brother Judge Salvadore T. Mulè (Margaret Mary), cousin Sister Josephine Cusimano, D.C., many nieces and nephews, her Sisters in Community and many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, February 20, 2017 in the Seton Chapel. Burial will be in St. Vincent Cemetery, Soniat Street, New Orleans, LA Saturday March 4, 2017.
