Clara Odelle Witt Arthur, 86 of Bedford, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center. She was born on Sunday, Sept. 21, 1930 in Bedford County, the only daughter of the late John W. Witt and Agnes Irene James Witt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Welford Hill Arthur, her daughter, Brenda Maxfield, son-in-law, Kenneth D. Maxfield, as well as three brothers and one sister-in-law. She was retired from Walmart, was a member of member of Thaxton Baptist Church and the Women of the Moose # 1005. She is survived by her son, John H. Arthur and wife, Linda; daughters, Alice Foutz and husband, Gerald, Betty Maxfield; sisters-in-law, Ouida Witt, Margaret Witt, Arline Ferguson, eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Huddleston Lifesaving Crew, P. O. Box 77, Huddleston, VA 24104. Funeral services were held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor Danny Holdren officiating. Interment followed in Suck Spring Baptist Church Cemetery.
